Welcome to Aspen

Picturesque downtown Aspen; both quaint and opulent, it has long been recognized as one of the premier tourist destinations in the country.

The snow-capped mountains are prime for skiing and snowboarding from fall to early spring, while the scenic landscape is perfect to explore by hikers, bikers, and horseback riders all spring and summer. Whether for work or play, adventure or serenity, Aspen offers something for everyone to enjoy. Nestled in the heart of all.

Our Hotel

The Residence Hotel's unique interior design is combined with inspirations from rich cultures across the globe - European, Asian, Indian, and Tibetan. The Residence has an authenticity and a special eclectic feel.

Visitors can expect their luxurious and tranquil accommodations to be accompanied by the highest standard of guest services. There is a remarkable sense of homeyness that turns moments at The Residence into lasting memories.

History & Heritage

Inside The Residence every wall tells a story, and the very building itself has been part of the Aspen community for over 130 years. The hotel opened its doors to guests in 1996 after being aesthetically curated by long-time Aspen native, Terry Butler.

With two decades of loyal and distinguished guests that span from entertainers and athletes to artists and politicians, somehow the hotel still maintains a subtle mystique as the city’s hidden gem.

  • The perfect home away from home

My experience was great. I stayed in the two bedroom apartment called the English Victorian. It's so beautiful with a lovely kitchen which made it really easy to cook for an extended stay. I also loved the location two blocks from the supermarket, theater, and ski lifts; around the corner from the outdoor terraces, all make this a perfect location...

  • Residence Hotel - Simple, Sweet, Serenity

We just stayed at the Residence Hotel for the Aspen Food & Wine Classic in the Raj Suite. The entire staff was very attentive to our every need, the suite was very eclectic and comfortable. Probably my favorite suite in the hotel. The location can't be beat as you are in the middle of all the shopping, restaurants, and entertainment....

  • Amazing location, fabulous decor and a staff that makes you feel like family

The hotel is located in a turn-of the-century building in the heart of Aspen. Each room/suite is deocorated with antiques & fine art and staff was beyond helpful. We've stayed in a number of other 5* properties in Aspen, but none provided the warmth, location and charm that Terry Butler's Hotel does. A must stay and one of a kind.

  • A true Home away from Home

We had a family trip planned with our 3 adult children (and two golden retrievers) and booked two rooms. The service and accommodations were exceptional. The Terry's (Butler and Terry the office manager) were so kind and welcoming. Beds were so comfortable and rooms were spacious. The location is fantastic. One of the best hotel experiences we have ever had...

  • Absolute gem in the heart of Aspen!

This is by far the best kept secret in Aspen! The most incredible boutique hotel right in the heat of downtown. The rooms are VERY large, all with their own kitchen, perfect for those who want to cook/eat breakfast in (rooms have coffee makers, too). I have stayed in The Residence twice now in two different rooms, one more of...

  • best place to stay in Aspen

our family has been coming here for over 15 years. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. The rooms are decorated with antiques from all over the world. The location is the best in town. Terry is like family to us, and her new pooch, Charlie Brown, is a sweetie. If you are looking for a place to stay that...

  • Luxurious home away from home

I stayed at the Residence Hotel for several weeks while I was waiting for my home to be remodeled and I felt like a queen. Terry Butler is a gracious and engaging host and she greeted me everytime I came home. Her little dog Max and I became close friends. The decor is quite lavish but extremely comfortable (especially the...

  • Welcomed with open arms!

The hotel I was originally booked increased my price when I was checking in, and was even rude : (. Therefore, not a pleasant experience, so needless to say, I was desperate for lodging at the very last minute. Someone told me about Terry Butler, at The Residence Hotel, and called her immediately. She gave me her very last suite...

  • Best Place to Stay In Aspen

The Residence Hotel is easily the best place to stay when visiting Aspen. The hotel is located in the center of town, so it is just steps away from the gondola, restaurants, Belly Up, and night life. The rooms always exceed expectations and Terry (the owner) is truly a wonderful person. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure...

  • Warm Slice of Parisian Heaven

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary and were delighted! Terry and her staff were warm and helpful from our first contact throughout the trip. The hotel is a true hidden gem. The French Studio was a perfect slice of Paris, where we were married. The lobby is plush, bright, inviting, "richly appointed" as they say. Terry herself...

  • Eclectic, Cozy, and Highly Recommended

The Residence Hotel in Aspen was one that I randomly found during an internet search for places to stay for our first trip to Aspen. I was absolutely NOT disappointed. When you look online, you see the different suites available. They are each unique in their own way – with decorations that have been accumulated through many various years and...

  • Thank you Terry for a Great Stay!

I have been to Aspen many times and by a twist of fate or divine guidance, I was fortunate to stay at The Residence Hotel. Not only did it feel like a home away from home, but the hospitality and staff - along with the "walk to the slopes" location, could not be beat. It felt as if you had...

We stayed there for three nights and never having visited Aspen before, it was the perfect location!
